Conference on Research Careers 2025: Secure Your Place

Registrations are now open for the Conference on Research Careers 2025, which will take place on 11–12 December as part of the broader Choose Europe for Science initiative focused on attracting and retaining research talent. The event will gather policymakers, research professionals, and stakeholder networks to explore how Europe can build a more sustainable, excellent, and free environment for researchers.

This year’s programme will highlight:

  • The promotion and protection of scientific freedom
  • New initiatives to make research careers more attractive, sustainable, mobile, and rewarding
  • The latest policy developments supporting career stability and excellence across sectors
  • Opportunities for networking and collaboration

Through plenary sessions and interactive thematic discussions, participants will examine how to connect policy frameworks with practical measures that improve researchers’ working conditions, mobility, and recognition.

Closely linked to the event, the Conference on Freedom of Scientific Research, co-organised with UNESCO, will take place on 10 December. It will address increasing pressures on researchers, from personal threats to the impacts of misinformation, surveillance, and AI on everyday scientific work. The programme will include new evidence, reflections relevant to upcoming EU legislation, and a practical exchange on approaches already showing results across Europe.

Since its launch in 2023, the Conference on Research Careers has become an important platform for discussing career stability, mobility, employment conditions, and research management within the European Research Area. The 2025 edition builds on these foundations and integrates topics closely linked to scientific freedom.

Both conferences will be open to participants joining in person or online, with the exception of the closed sessions on 12 December reserved for invited stakeholders.
