NOVA University Lisbon Secures 228 PhD Positions in FCT-Tenure Call

NOVA University Lisbon has achieved outstanding results in the FCT-Tenure Competition, securing funding for 228 permanent positions for PhD holders in research and teaching careers. As a partner in the SECURE project, NOVA further strengthens its role in advancing research and collaboration across various disciplines. This initiative, launched by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), represents a significant step toward combating precarious employment in science and fostering stable career opportunities.

Out of the 1,100 positions provisionally selected for funding nationwide, NOVA was awarded 100 positions in teaching and 128 in research, positioning the university as the top institution in Portugal with the highest number of approved positions. NOVA’s success rate of 87% far exceeds the national average of 50%.

All participating academic units at NOVA secured funding, reinforcing the university’s commitment to retaining and attracting talent across various disciplines. This achievement aligns with its broader strategy to enhance scientific employment conditions and bolster its international research and teaching capabilities.

The FCT-Tenure program is co-funded by the State Budget and the PRR, with a total investment of 197 million euros. The provisional results, announced on August 14th, highlight NOVA’s leadership in advancing opportunities for PhD researchers within Portugal’s scientific and technological system.For more information, click HERE.
